more-inFour members of a Dalit family attempted suicide here on Wednesday as they were unable to endure coercion by a money lender, who had charged them exorbitant interest, the police said.
The family subsequently settled the principal amount of ?2 lakh along with interest of ?1.75 lakh two years ago.
The accused even threatened to kill her and her family if they did not accede to the demands, she claimed.
She had stated in her petition that she had borrowed ?2 lakh for 5% interest from Suruli Raj four years ago.

Team member Lipi Jobson said that in order to strengthen the sports abilities among children, sports material was distributed to high school students, besides assisting their academic career.

“However, we refused to accept the contention made by the revenue authorities”, said Vinayagamoorthy who was part of the team that went for the talks.
A section of residents who took part in the meeting which was also attended by officials from the Airports Authority of India and the City Police refused to accept the decision of the revenue authorities regarding land acquisition.
Residents said they would not compromise on their lands as it would also adversely affect the education of their wards.
